A publication worth the work that went into it

Ariadne rebuilds magazines, reports and annual publications as digital editions that keep the character of the original — its design, its typography, the way it is meant to be read.

It should feel like the publication it came from, and be as good to read on a phone as it was on the page.

Over thirty years of magazine and print design, through to the digital editions we build now.

The same publication, in a form people will finish

Before
  • Months of editorial and design, flattened into a PDF.
  • Readers pinch and zoom, then give up.
  • No idea who read it, or which piece landed.
  • A single correction means reissuing the whole file.
After
  • A designed edition that works on whatever people are holding.
  • One link you can send, embed, or put in a signature.
  • You can see what was read, and how far.
  • Corrections go live as soon as you are ready.

Everything good about a publication is lost the moment it becomes a PDF

A publication is a considered thing. Someone commissioned the writing, someone edited it, someone laid it out and argued about the cover. It represents real money and real effort.

Then it is exported as a PDF, put behind a link, and read — if it is read at all — on a phone, where it is unusable. The design that cost the most is the first thing to break.

The alternatives are worse. Page-turner tools wrap the same PDF in an animation and call it digital. A content management system will publish the words and throw the design away.

The work was good. It just is not in a form anyone can read.

The signs that a publication is not working

The design

The digital version came back generic, rather than looking like the thing you designed.

On a phone

A layout built for a spread falls apart on the screen most people will read it on.

Readership

You cannot say how many people opened the last edition, let alone read it.

Corrections

A figure was wrong, and fixing it meant reissuing the file to everyone.

Designed editions, built from the work you have already done

01

Digital editions

Your magazine or journal rebuilt as a designed edition. The layout adapts to the screen rather than shrinking to fit it, and the reading experience is the point rather than an afterthought.

02

Annual reports and reviews

The document an organisation is judged on, built so the figures can be explored rather than squinted at, and so the whole thing can be sent as a link rather than a fourteen-megabyte attachment.

03

Editions that stay right

Corrections, late additions and updated figures go live without republishing. Where content is signed off or regulated, changes are versioned so you can show what was published when.

04

An archive worth keeping

Back issues that stay live, searchable and linkable, so the work you paid for keeps earning after the month it was published in.

The publication becomes something you can point at

  • Readers get a great experience no matter what device they are using.
  • One link works everywhere — email, social, a QR code on the printed copy.
  • You can see which pieces were read, and commission accordingly next time.
  • Mistakes stop being permanent.
  • Advertisers and sponsors get something measurable to buy.

Start with one edition

We work from what you already produce — the InDesign files, or the finished PDF if that is all there is. Your editorial process does not change, and neither does your print run if you have one.

You keep the design

We work from your layout and your typography rather than dropping the content into a template. If you have a designer, they stay in charge of how it looks.

Scoped and priced upfront

Each edition is agreed as a fixed cost before it starts. See what it costs.

Owned by you

You own the edition and can self-host if preferred, or we can host it and look after it, with access control and readership figures included.

Everything it takes, agreed before we start

One price, end to end — the design work, the build, and getting the edition published. The first twelve months of looking after it are part of that price, not an extra line that appears later.

from £4,500 + VAT
  • Your layout and typography rebuilt as a digital edition
  • Published, hosted and kept available for the first twelve months
  • Yours to keep. You own the edition and can self-host if preferred

On request, publications can be designed so that repeat editions are more cost-effective. No software subscription and no per-reader fees.

An edition can still change after it has gone out

Figures get restated. A name is spelled wrong. A piece needs a note adding once something has moved on.

When that happens, you tell us what needs changing and we make the change — no reprint, no reissued file, and no new link to send round. If nothing needs changing, the edition stays exactly as it was published.

Either way the versions are kept, so you can show what was published and when.

Organisations whose publications represent them, and want it done properly

Membership bodies, associations, professional and financial services firms, and in-house communications teams — anyone producing a magazine, a review or an annual report where the content has to be right and signed off before it goes anywhere.

Send us what you published last time.

We will look at it properly and tell you what it could be — and if the honest answer is that a PDF is fine for what you need, we will tell you that instead.
